About the Role

As a Category Manager, you will be responsible for the P&L for the category assigned. The categories could be either a set of Products / OEMs/ Accessories or Channels. You will work closely with the representatives of the retail chain as well and procurement and operations team to formulate competitive strategies and innovative marketing / promotion schemes to achieve targets / goals. This will include ongoing competitive market analysis, tracking global trends and product lifecycles. You will need to maintain strong relationships with the respective OEMs/ ODMs/ Accessories manufacturers.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manage categories (with a P&L responsibility) of phones, accessories, and channel related services from OEMs / ODMs/ Operators.

  • Manage within assigned category budget.

  • In depth understanding of retail business and the mobile handset market. 

  • Every week share/update GSM/Non-GSM price database.

  • Accountable for the data quality.

  • Use category management as a tool to ensure optimal brand and product presence in the retail outlets

  • Work closely with the client (the retail chain executives), procurement managers and vendor teams to develop a sales and procurement plan /sales and (joint) marketing strategy and implement thereon. 

  • Actively participate in sales and operations planning meetings with the retailer.

  • Negotiate prices, promotions schemes with the vendors, along with the procurement head.

  • Be the primary contact window for the vendors.

  • Accountable for keeping appropriate relationships with the vendors and getting device/technological roadmaps on regular basis.

  • Analyze market data on products, life cycles, performance, and opportunities

  • In the long term – establish team to grow the business.

  • Be the primary contact window for sales team. 

  • Accountable for keeping good relationships and pushing the team for more contracted device offers.

  • Develop and implement promotions and programs.

  • Optimize marketing actions by analyzing/evaluating competitive activities on regional/market basis; provide recommendations on appropriate activities to achieve increased market share.

  • Support distribution-building efforts in concert with Sales, Logistics and Finance by identifying account or market opportunities and preparing SKU rationalization arguments.

  • Provide recommendations to customers to optimize trade promotional spending, responsible for the effectiveness of promotion by account and or market

  • Communicate category, category change and activity, and merchandising standards for each format.

Requirements:

  • Graduate, preferably with a degree in Business Administration.

  • 7 to 10 years experience in product management, category management and marketing

  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment and excellent communication and negotiation skills

  • Comfortable working with state-of-the-art decision support IT applications.

  • Proficiency with MS Office

  • Speaking and writing knowledge of English (Arabic is a plus)
